Music Classes
Dance to a new beat! Our Music Classes incorporate the learning methods of Kodály and Orff. In our classes we playfully explore the essential building blocks of music like rhythm, pitch, beat and tempo that will give children a solid foundation of musical skills. Our classes promote learning and growth through musical activities such as
- Listening
- Singing
- Moving
- Playing Instruments
- Creating(exploration and improvisation)
Every two or three weeks, the children will explore a different genre of music and each genre will consist of a few styles within it. As the style changes, so do the class activities. We choose styles from around the globe, so through the year we take the children on a musical and cultural journey around the world. Class duration varies somewhat but is typically 45 minutes to an hour long
“Sittin on Up”
For those who are confidently sitting, but not yet walking! Children will delight in the sound of instruments, and “singing” through musical baby talk.
They'll enjoy being sung to, experiencing new sounds and the anticipation of surprise! Learning through listening and watching, moving, and “singing” with coos and babbles.
“Movers and Shakers”
For those who are confident movers, and like a lot of action of a short duration Children will begin to experiment with ways to play musical instruments, accompany a song with rhythm, and act out lyrics through movements using both gross motor and fine motor skills.
Children know so much about music at this stage, and are at the beginning stages of being able to express themselves musically!
“Dreamers and Schemers”
For those who are talking and beginning to develop an imagination. Children will be able to play musical patterns like clapping, patting, tapping or stomping to a beat.
Their movements are coordinated and purposeful as we practice matching lyrics to choreographed movements and explore instrumental and improvisational play. Your little one is progressing from receptive to expressive musical behaviour!
Family Music
Get musical with the whole family through instruments, song, dance, games and more, while building a solid foundation of musical skills for everyone. Engage your little ones in a multi-age music class which provides opportunities not only to learn musical techniques, styles, and about different instruments, but also supports social and emotional development.
